NZ Processes
Every year, the Ministry of Health undertakes an Annual Review of networked drinking-water supplies to see if they have achieved the drinking-water standards and met the requirements of the Health Act for the past 12 months.
The survey is carried out by ESR for the Ministry, using the WINZ (to 2017) or the new Drinking Water Online database to gather the information from water suppliers and District Health Boards. The data is collected for around 650 supplies, audited by DWAs, validated, analysed and reported to the Ministry, a process that takes several months.
The Ministry in turn examine the report and discuss issues with interested parties. The report is then published on the Ministry website.
Data is gathered for a 12 month period and is typically published within 12 months of the end of the period.
